Yes, though it does depend on the motorhome. In most cases, if you have a full UK driving licence (ie. Category B) you can drive a motorhome up to 3,500kg.
For heavier vehicles, a C1 licence is required – and to achieve this level of licensing, you must undergo further tests etc. However, the vehicles for hire at Continental each have an MTPLM (Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass) of 3500kg, and are therefore suitable to drive by anyone who holds a full standard UK driving licence.
No, not at all! UK motorhome and campervan travellers are really well served in the UK and there are plenty of well-equipped campsites with motorhome pitches. Many of them offer electric hook-ups, waste disposal and fresh water.
Wild camping rules vary – in England and Wales it is generally not permitted without the landowner’s permission. Scotland is sometimes considered as ‘wild camping-friendly’, due to the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. However, the right to camp on most unenclosed land only applies to non-motorised camping.
